Cape Cod Onion Lantern - interior/exterior hanging light in antique copper, 1 light, clear glass. Size shown: 10-1/2"wide x 17"high. Available in other finishes, sizes and glass. These Onion Lanterns originated in the New England Cape Cod area. The soldered wire guard protected the hand-blown glass from the frequent "NorEaster's" that batter the New England coasts. The lanterns are a popular choice for interior and exterior applications. Copper Lantern Lighting only uses copper or brass on all our exterior lanterns and landscape lights. We highly recommend copper for coastal properties. Copper will turn an interesting rust patina where as brass will turn a verdi-green patina. All of our lanterns are built to last a lifetime. We use cast brass bar stock for all of our structural supports. Living on the coast requires everything you put on the outside of your home to be resistant to salt air or you will be replacing those items within a year. The initial cost of installing copper or brass light fixtures will pay for themselves when you won't have to replace them year after year. Never purchase steel or tin fixtures. They will rust out and leave ugly rust streaks down your siding. Cast Aluminum fixtures will pit out and flake away, leaving an unsightly lantern. Plastic fixtures will dry out from intense sun and fall apart from coastal winds.
